First Time Solo Traveler // Tips and Tricks

Kings and Queens, the time has finally arrived. I have taken the big step and decided to plan my first ever trip alone. Trust me it was not easy, but it had to be done. I kept on asking people to go with me and it just turned out to be the biggest disappointment ever. And let's just say Gu-wee was over being disappointed or dropped at the last minute.

But you didn't come here to read about my disappointments, you came for my tips and tricks to get ready for your first solo travel. And let me say that I am super proud of you for taking the first step.

1. Mindset.

You need to change your mindset. Stop thinking that if you travel alone, you will not have fun or that you will be an outcast because you won't. I had to change my mindset, if I was to travel alone and enjoy it. I did a lot of soul searching and I went back and forth and kept on postponing my trip. But I told myself "if not now, when?"

2. Pick Your Destination.

I've always wanted to go to San Francisco. And that is the destination I picked. Choose a place that you have never been to and always wanted to visit. A place that you know you will be able to have fun at without any company.

3. Research Research.

Make sure you do your research on the destination you are planning on visiting. If you are going to a different county, make sure you know the rules and what is excepted and what not. Fortunate for me I am just going to San Francisco there aren't many restrictions.

4. Itinerary

As a solo traveler, you are in control of EVERYTHING and that includes planning what you are going to do when you get there. Pinterest was a great help to give me an idea of what I can do in San Francisco. Asking around and googling is also a big help. These pins below were helped me and there are plenty of other pins that I used. Feel free to check them out.

5. ENJOY! You Deserve it.

You worked too hard not to enjoy your trip. And I am speaking about myself here. Giving me the motivation to go out there and enjoy it. I paid for it so I am going to enjoy it to the fullest.

October Charms // BoxyCharm October 2017

Can't believe it's October already? Which means dressing up, Fall (if you live anywhere but Southern California) and Candy... Did I forget something? YES!!! Its Boxycharm Time.

If you don't know what Boxycharm is, I have one question for you: Have you been living under a rock?

Just kidding, you know Gu-wee's got your back. If you don't know already I am a budget queen and love looking FABULOUS for less. I love me some good makeup but can't always afford it and that is where Boxycharm comes in. I only pay $21/mo and I get FULL size makeup/skincare/haircare products and I love it. All these products added up can be at value of $100 or more. If you like what you are reading? What are you waiting for? Click here to join boxycharm. You won't be sorry!

October charms were not too bad. Not going to bore you to death, let's see what I received.

1. Dr Brandt Pore Dermabrasion.

So this is a face scrub that deep cleans and refines pores. You are supposed to use it every 2-3 days and I have been using it for a week. Since I have been using it, my skin started breaking out. Hopefully in a months time I will be seeing some good results. Will keep you posted on Instagram, be sure to follow.

2. ncLA "Nailed It" Tool Kit.

I am all about doing my own nails so I loved this kit. Nice and small and easy to pack and travel with. It has all the basic things you need to keep your nails on fleek while on the run.

3. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter.

Now, hands down this is my favourite charm for October. If you check out my video on instagram, you will see that GLOW. This is my favourite highlighter by far from all the highlighters I have ever tried. Would I buy this again if it ran out? YES! YES! YES! The Becca Cosmetics Highlighter is Gold!

4. JontéBlu Lip Liner Pencil

I have only recently started using lips liners as I always thought that lip liners were to help enhance your lips. You all know that I have natural thick lips so I don't see the use to enhance my lips. I loved this liner though, as it was easy to apply and super moist.

5. Tarte Tartiest Quick Matte Paint

I love myself a good matte lipstick that doesn't leave my lips dry. As its winter and my lips needs tons of TLC. The Taste matte lipstick is so amazing. Stays on the whole day without having to reapply. I mean that is very girls dream matte lipstick. And best of all... It doesn't dry out my lips. Can I get a whoop whoop!

Museum Of Ice Cream (MOI)//First SOLO outing.

Personally, I was not planning on doing a blog regarding my recent visit to the Museum Of Ice Cream (MOI). The reason why I didn't want to blog/write about it was the purely because  I went alone with no family, friends or boyfriend. So to tell the truth, I was feeling kind of sorry for myself.

BUT, I swallowed my pride, got dressed, sat in traffic for 3 hours all together and showed up. And that turned out to be THE BEST FIRST SOLO OUTING EVER!!! As I am writing about this post,  I still feel so stoked about it.

As I mentioned I had to sit in traffic for 3 hours all together. I bought my ticket in June 2017, if I am not mistaken, as that was the time they went on sale. I only bought one ticket because they were selling out fast and also I have faced some disappointments with some friends that I was like "if you want to go, get your own ticket". Which was kinda rude from my side right?.. Uhm no I don't think so. I am just fed up of getting disappointed and not getting a chance to do what I want. But any who, getting back to the ticket; closer to time I wanted to sell it as I was terrified to go alone. I mean "who was going to take pictures for and with me?" and "who was going to share the experience with me"?

By now you all now that I am an Au Pair (Au Poor) and also a budget queen. I paid $29.00 for that ticket so I was not going to let that go to waste. I put on my big girl pants and went. I booked a ticket for 7pm in the evening and I showed up at 7:30pm (African time) and traffic. When I got there , Raspberry Ryan was so cool and understood and I was able to start the adventure.

They do say a picture is worth a thousand words... Well, I wonder how many words a few pictures are worth?

The pink room. I just loved this room because it was PINK and if you can't tell by now, I am a huge pink fan. Not just the colour. Thank you so much for the kind stranger that took a picture of me.

Outfit Deeds// Hat: Can't Remember. Sweater: PACSUN

This room was a real Southern California kinda room. If you know what I mean. And once again it was pink. In this room we got to sample some ice cream, which was heaven. Kinda like a unicorn in a cup. But the only down fall for me was that I am lactose intolerant, so the next day I was MIA.

If you ever go to the MOI, do yourself a favour and smell the bananas on the wall. I literally wanted to grab a bite of those nanas on the wall and I don't even eat bananas.

Outfit Deeds// Backpack: Wish
Yes, I took a picture on the Banana swings and I loved it. Once again thank you for the kind young gentle man who took the picture for me.

This ish is Bananas
Moving on to the Minty, all to green, calming room. Love this room it really balanced out the colours of the MOI.

No jokes, this room really made my pink POP. I feel like this was the perfect outfit for MOI. You know I am a budget queen and I love looking good for less. And this was a great choice.

This picture is just for my bestie. She loves these shoes that are designed to look like yummy dessert.

Be YOU!!!
The gummy room was my second favourite room. Not just because is had Gummies for days, but because I was breaking it down with one of the friendly MOI staff. Let's just say, I danced off the Ice Cream I received earlier.

Dance like nobody is watching.
Ask me how it feels like to lie in a sprinkle bath and I would say magical. This was by far my favourite room. 95 million sprinkles, who wouldn't want to take a picture?

As you can see, I had lots of fun ALONE and I can't wait for my next solo outing. To see more pictures don't be shy to go and check out my Instagram

Style On A Budget - PopPoly

Hey Pretty Faces, decided to do my very first clothing review. As you already know I am an Au Pair (Au Poor) and I love the finer things in life, but I can't always afford them. But that is no train smash if you find some hidden online shopping gems.

I decided to check out PopPoly, a Women Fashion Online Store that is super affordable. Because it was my first time ordering from this online store, I only ordered one item to see if I really like it. Not going to drag this out any longer so let's see what I ordered.

What I ordered was a Poppoly Lead Me To You Bat Sleeves Sweater. I order it in the smallest size, which was a Small. On the picture it looked wine red but when I received it, it was more of an burgundy. If you know me, you know I am a lover for burgundy so I did not complain.

I paid $19.45 excluding tax. It took a while to get delivered. By the time I received it, I kinda forgot about it. Oops!

When I did the shoot to showcase this top, it looked red in the sun as you can see in the pictures. Which explains why it is advertised as wine red.

The fit was big. I feel like it was a big small. But it is a sweater and sweaters should be big and loose. Loved the sleeved though. They are not to narrow and it makes it easy to move around with. And I am a big sucker for open shoulders, the only thing I hate about open shoulders is when I lift up my arms. But this sweater stayed in place no matter how high I lifted up my arms. So of cause that is a big plus!

As you can see I had fun shooting this all by myself.

Would I order from PopPoly again? Uhm... Yes I would order from them. Personally I feel like if you need the item now, you shouldn't order from them. But if you are willing to wait then give it a try. You have absolutely nothing to loose.

Physical Self Love - Be The Queen You Were Meant To Be.

In my first post regarding Self Love, I briefly touched on what I saw as Self Love. But now I'm going to take one step deeper. Because deeper is better right?

Photo by Brigitte Tohm on Unsplash

Personally I don't care what the dictionary says about Self Love because my definition is simple: PUTTING YOURSELF FIRST! Period.

This is the first part of three parts for the Self Love series (if I could call it that) that I will be doing. This post is all about the Physical Self Love.

1. Drink Water

If you are anything like me and don't like the taste of water at all. You come up with a way to get that H2O in body. So this is what I do:
  • In the morning before my coffee/tea I have this rule. I cannot drink my hot beverage if I don't drink a glass of water first.
  • I live for ice! I am a bigger lover for ice and the reason is because of my health but I use that to my advantage. I add ice to my water bottle so when I drink water, I will drink until I get a piece of ice. This works every time.

Water is very good for your body and your body plays a big role when it comes to Self Love. Because without a body how will you be able to take care of yourself physically?

2. Go For A Walk

So during the week and most weekends I do not have a car, I use my God given gifts and walk. I do plenty  of walking; from walking with two kids, pushing a stroller to the park/target to just walking to the store by myself. Walking keeps me lean and not so mean but while I walk I get to focus on me. On what I want in life and what I want to see happen. I feel like when I walk I am able to think clearly. Fresh air is always good for the brain.

Sometimes you don't need a car to get away, you just need a good pair of running shoes, music and nature to clear your head.

3. Shake What Your Momma Gave You

Yes, you read it right. Dance, shake your bum bum, like no one is watching. When I dance I feel free, trouble free and worry free. If you know me, you would know that when I hit the dance floor... I drop it like it is hot and I don't care who is watching because I am doing me Boo!

Dancing gives you an opportunity to let go. Those few minutes that you just let go can turn out to be the best minutes of your day.

4. Free Hugs

I'm a hugger. So I always give out hugs as if I'm Oprah. Lately I have been wanting a hug from my Mommy Dearest because I went through a teary couple of days. Truth be told nothing beats a mommy's hug. But God blessed me with people around me who love giving hugs and I take it with open arms, no pun intended.

Photo by Alex Blăjan on Unsplash
"Sometimes all you really need is someone to hug you tight and refuse to let you go until you feel better. You are very special"
Don't be afraid to receive hugs because sometimes it ends up being the day you needed it the most and you didn't even know it.

5. Hot Shower, Yes Please!

So, I am not a bath person. Reason being is because I feel like if you bath, you just end up bathing in your own filth. But any who, that's me being Gu-wee.

What I do after a long day is: I take a lovely hot shower and just take a deep breath and relax. After that I change into my comfy pj's.

But if you are a bath person, get your self some essential oils, bath bombs, music and a glass of wine and unwind. Don't worry about anyone else but yourself. This is the time where you need to put yourself first.

Self Love means being a bit selfish; putting yourself first, chasing your dreams or just plain splurging money on yourself. Because you work hard not to do so.

Why are we so scared to spoil ourselves?
