San Francisco // Travel Diaries

Yas! I survived my first Solo Travel to San Francisco and might I just add, It was just what my soul needed. That was the best gift I could've given myself.

Location: Lombard Street, San Francisco

Be sure to check out my post on First Time Solo Traveler and Traveling Solo On A Budget and follow my travel diaries.

So where do I begin?.. My flight was delayed by 8 long hours so I only got to San Fran in the afternoon, which totally messed up my plans. But at least I got there right?

I checked-in to the Adelaide Hostel, which is two blocks away from Union Square. Which I wasn't complaining because it felt like I was in a movie with Saks on the one side and Macy's on the other side.

Location: Union Square, San Francisco

Day 1:

I arrived and checked in and immediately changed and went to go and explore. Now let me tell you something, my boots are made for walking but they were not made for walking uphill in San Fran hahaha. But anywho, I walked to Union Square, China Town, grabbed a drink in China Town and walked back to the Hostel. At The Hostel I then met some amazing people where we drank and played some games. And if you know Gu-wee, you know she likes to dance. So we ended up going out to dance. All this happened Saturday afternoon/evening.

Day 2:

This was my day of exploring. I started off the morning with a free tour in and around Union Square. Originally I was not planning on going, but these two guys I met at the hostel went and I just tagged along. Yes, I know what you are thinking "third wheeling" hahaha but no no Gu-wee just went to see what was going on and might I add it was free. You know your girl is a budget queen being an Au Poor. No money to waste!

The Boys

This tour was the best thing I could've done as I ended up meeting a lovely friend. After the tour was done, we went off to do touristy things. First stop was Lombard Street. Lombard street was a must, I have always wanted to visit is and one of my good friend's surname is Lombard. So what better way to share a memory. We went around noon time and it was busy. So personally I don't know what time is the best time to visit Lombard street as it seems to be super busy everyday.

We then took a bus to the Painted Ladies and took some pictures there. Close to the painted ladies there is Divisadero Street, make sure to visit it when you are there or close to it. The whole street has nice restaurants and small shops. Worth walking through. I kid you not those hills had me huffing and puffing and I don't even smoke.

We had lunch in on of the restaurant in Divisadero Street. Personally, I don't eat a lot and ended up ordering a hotdog. But I only ended up eating everything but the bun. Typical Gu-wee.

We headed back to our hostels (as we were staying in different hostels) to get warmer clothes because it gets chilly in San Francisco. Then we headed over to the Golden Gate Bridge. By the time we got there it was quite dark and very cold, so we didn't't stay long.

But on our way back we took the wrong bus and ended up in the suburbs of San Francisco. We were not very happy. But we are smart girls and quickly figured out how to get back to our hood.

Day 3:

Early morning I headed back to the Golden Bridge as I wanted to see it during the day.

Right next to the Golden Gate Bridge there is a place named the Palace of Fine Arts. Another must to go and visit. My host mom suggested this place and must say it is a true gem! Go check it out if you ever end up visiting San Francisco and don't forget to tag me.

I am a beeeeg chocolate fan but Ghiradelli is my fave. So I had to go to the Ghiradelli Square to check it out and to say "I was there". Fun fact: In the three days I was in San Francisco I managed to go once in the Ghiradelli Square shop Downtown San Francisco and twice to the big Ghiradelli Square close to Fisherman's Wharf. So can you see how much I LOVE it?

Location: Ghiradelli Square, San Francisco

Fisherman's Wharf was amazing. There are nice restaurants and shops there. We went the the previous nigh where I had some calamari there, but I wasn't a big fan of that. I am sure there are very nice seafood restaurants there, I just chose the wrong one. And I am big on seafood, which means I am very fussy and if I don't like it I won't go back. My last stop was Union Square, of cause. I went to have my last lunch meal in San Fran (sad face) and then I went to Saks and Macy's. Saks was such a heartbreak because everything there is out of my budget. But it is motivation to work hard so that I am able to say "I shopped there too".

Coming back I flew First Class, I mean I couldn't believe it because it was my first time flying First Class and guess what? I liked it!!!

Location: San Francisco International Airport.

Location: Alaska Airlines

Overall my trip was amazing. Traveling alone is less stressful and I got to do what I wanted and how I wanted to do it without anyone nagging me or hurrying me up. Will I be doing more solo traveling? Oh yes indeed I will! The world is my oyster and sometimes I need to discover that by myself.

Go check out my vlog on my San Francisco trip. They say pictures are worth a thousand words and I say videos are worth a million.

  7. I have been to SF as a tourist but not in many years! While expensive, it is a fun place to visit. Of course Ghiradelli chocolates is a must as is Fisherman's Wharf. Looks like you had a great trip plus a first-class airline seat going home to boot, not bad!
